Glorifying God With My Writing

Writing isn't just about some letters on paper. It's a way to use our gifts and talents.
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward."-Colossians 3:23-24
I primarily write realistic fiction, fantasy, with a bit of everything thrown in between. But through this, I can explore deep messages of faith and redemption, even when it's not technically "Christian" writing. Even in my current science fiction book right now, I am inserting truth about a meaningful creator, the meaning of life, and searching for answers. It doesn't have to be religious or philosophical. But when we work for the Lord and use our God-given talents for him, it pleases our Lord. He looks down on us and says, "Ruthie is using her art skills to tell others about me. Johny is playing soccer for my glory, not his."
One amazing example of this is Gabrielle "Gabby" Douglas. This three time Olympics gold medalist says this:
"I give all the glory to God. It's kind of a win-win situation. The glory goes up to Him and the blessings fall down on me."
When we as Christians have talents and abilities, the best thing we can do with them is to use them for God. Lopez Lomong, a Christian sudanese refugee who eventually became an Olympian, used his incredible speed to tell others about Lost Boys from Sudan.
As writers, when we don't become too proud, and we don't believe our success is entirely from ourselves, even that is giving the glory to Him. We can say, "God led me through the struggles, and he gave me this amazing talent." That's it. It's not hard. So the next time you have an opportunity, give the glory to King Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.
"So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
-1 Corinthians 10:31
